What's Wrong With Staying In Your Comfort Zone

Why do we stay in our comfort zone

We stay in our comfort zone because it is our carefree safe space.

It’s what is familiar. It’s also the place where we are the most dissatisfied with our life.

When we stay in our comfort zone, we are forcing ourselves to stay stagnant.

We’re afraid to change for fear of what could happen.

Our brains are trained to keep us safe so we stay in our comfort zone because it is safe.

Staying in our comfort zone though can cause problems as well.

Here are 8 reasons why staying in your comfort zone is wrong

Your Comfort Zone Keeps You From Reaching Your Goals

If you stay in your comfort zone, you are less likely to follow through on reaching your goals.

You still create goals and you set out to achieve them. When things get tough or are not going the way you feel they should, you fall back into your zone because it is less scary.

Your fear, procrastination, and any other excuse keep you from taking action toward your goal.

Lack Of Growth Exist In Your Comfort Zone

Staying in your comfort zone will keep you from growing into anything more than what you already are.

You’ll always be stuck, never going forward and never growing and changing.

You might end up not achieving your goals because you’re stuck on doing things the same way you’ve always done them, even though you have not seen the results you want.

You don’t step out of your comfort zone to explore what you’re truly capable of and you end up not knowing if you could be great at doing “the thing.”

Passion Does Not Exist In Your Comfort Zone

Staying in your comfort zone makes it harder for you to discover your passion.

Passion is like a seed you plant and watch grow but your comfort zone is the place where all your seeds will die because there is no oxygen helping the seeds flourish.

Your passion can only be found outside your comfort zone.

Feeling Left Behind

When you stay in your comfort zone you will feel like you are being left behind by your colleagues and others you relate to.

Imagine you plan a trip. You go to the airport and everyone who booked a trip boards their planes when it’s time.

Everyone has left and you are the only person left in the airport because you were too afraid to board the plane.

They might have been behind you in terms of your life or career but because they stepped out of their comfort zone, they have passed you by.

   Settling For Less

By continuing to live in your comfort zone, you push yourself to settle for less than you desire.

You keep yourself from believing you can do anything other than the things you’ve already done.

You confine yourself to a small aspect of the world instead of exploring all the things the world has to offer you

If something doesn’t fit inside your box, it doesn’t exist for you.

   Your Self-Confidence Lags

When you don’t move out of your comfort zone, you aren’t building the confidence you need to grow and take on new challenges.

Think about a time something piqued your interest but because it wasn’t in your comfort zone so you doubted your abilities which resulted in you losing confidence in yourself.

  Your Health Suffers.

When you are not getting out of your comfort zone there is a chance you aren’t taking care of your health either.

It can be from fear of going to the doctor, not wanting to change your routines, avoiding going to the gym for some reason such as being looked at or trying something different.

Your comfort zone is not just about your career or relationships, your comfort zone deals with all aspects of your life.

  You’ll Be Unprepared For Changes.

You are inflexible and set in your ways when you stick to your comfort zone.

Life can be difficult, throwing all kinds of things at you.

You will have a hard time dealing with changes and possibly make them more difficult than they need to be.

Things can happen that will pull you out of your comfort zone even if you don’t want to.

Staying in your comfort zone keeps you from being open to new possibilities.

The excuses we use to stay in our comfort zones are the same reasons we need to leave them.

We all have greatness inside of us but we will never realize it if we continue to use the comfort zone as a crutch.

Let’s be honest you will take a chance on a person without knowing what the outcome will be.

Don’t you think you deserve the same type of chance?

Staying in your zone may feel comfortable but it’s wrong to limit yourself to settling for mediocrity.

Next week’s blog will share ways you can begin to step out of your comfort zone and begin to live the life you were meant to live.
