The Key To Setting Achievable Goals

Most of us if not all of us know what goals are. Some of us set them for every aspect of our lives. Others of us set them only when the outcome is something we desire.

We have been taught in one aspect or another how to create goals but don’t know what to do when we don’t achieve the goals we set.

Today. I am sharing with you a technique that will make setting and achieving your goals simpler. For those of us who are not aware, I am speaking about SMART goals.

What Are SMART Goals?

Goals are a part of every aspect of our lives. SMART goals are more specific than regular goals.

SMART goals are used to help with our goal setting. Here is what each letter in SMART means.

S-Specific

M-Measurable

A-Achievable

R-Realistic

T-Timely

Let’s Get A Better Understanding Of SMART

Specific means the goals are well defined and clear.

Each goal you create needs to answer each of the five w’s. We know what the five w’s are and they are who, what, when, where, why.

Answering each of these questions will ensure your goals are specific.

Measurable means the goals have criteria that the progress is measured against.

When you begin to make sure your goal is measurable, these are the questions you should answer.

How will I know when my goal is achieved?

How will I measure my progress?

How many/much?

Achievable means the goals can be accomplished and is not impossible.

Do you have the resources to achieve the goal?

Has this goal been achieved before?

Realistic means the goal is within reach and relevant to your life purpose. (of course, if you are setting goals for another area of your life the goal is relevant to that area).

Is the goal within reach?

Is the goal achievable with the given time and resources?

Are you able to commit to the goal?

Timely means the goal has a clear timeline including the starting and ending date.

Does my goal have a deadline?

By when do you want to achieve your goal?

Start Setting SMART Goals Today

Start by focusing on one letter at a time when creating your goals until you have an answer for each one.

Revisit some of your previous goals and see if they meet the criteria to be SMART goals.

If they do not meet the criteria, now is the time to update them. Focus on making your goals achievable so you can conquer anything.

The next time you decide to write out goals be specific so there is no room for indecision.

If you are a person who gets discouraged because you haven't obtained your goals. It is never too late to start achieving your goals.

You may want to start with smaller goals so you can get the hang of writing and achieving SMART Goals.

Keep me informed about your progress in making SMART Goals.
