How to Conquer Emotional Anxiety And Get Back In Touch With The Life You Want
We’ve all had moments where we didn't feel like ourselves and were out of sync with most things in our lives.
You tried everything to get yourself back on track but had little success.
Chances are, you may suffer from emotional anxiety because you are struggling with your identity.
Before we can conquer our anxiety, we will learn and techniques for overcoming our fear.
What Is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a normal stress reaction and can be good for us to experience. Anxiety can alert us when there is danger coming so we can prepare ourselves better.
Anxiety disorders feel different than normal feelings of being anxious and nervous. Anxiety disorders usually involve excessive fear and anxiety.
Anxiety disorder is just one type of disorder associated with having anxiety.
All related disorders can be categorized into one of three categories: Anxiety disorders, Obsessive-compulsive disorders, and Trauma-and stressor disorders.
In the context of emotional anxiety, the anxiety we experience impacts our emotional health and can knock us out of alignment and deter us from the life we want to live. This emotional state we sometimes feel ourselves in is often due to us struggling with our identity.
We struggle with our identity when we try to meet the expectations of everyone around us instead of meeting our expectations. When you feel yourself beginning to struggle with this, you should take the feelings head-on so you can overcome them.
How Can You Overcome Emotional Anxiety
Several different techniques help overcome emotional anxiety. I've chosen a few I believe will be helpful. All of the methods require you to spend time with yourself and be clear on who you are and what you want to do.
Setting Aside Time To Evaluate Your Feelings To Find The Disconnect In Your Life
So many of the things we do in life are done out of habit. We aren't even knowledgeable of when those habits are no longer helping us in our lives most of the time. We get so busy with day-to-day life that we don't even know or pay attention to the things taking from us and leaving us drained.
Now is where it is vital to incorporate self-check-ins. Take some time to notice your feelings when you are doing different things. Do these things make you feel empty, unfulfilled, tired? Why are you continuing to do these things?
Are these things that leave you feeling a certain way aligned with who you see yourself as and what yourself doing in life? If they do not think about what has changed and how this disconnect can be reframed to help you.
The easy answer is that the thing that creates the disconnect will be removed from your life. Because it no longer resonates and focuses on the things that represent you and your life as you see it.
Practicing Mindfulness
When we are suffering from anxiety, it is because we are not grounded in the present moment. To help combat this and help to overcome your fear, begin learning to practice mindfulness or get back to your mindfulness practice.
Why use mindfulness? Mindfulness allows you to get out of your head and get into the present moment and slow down. Mindfulness also allows you to get more in touch with your feelings as you are experiencing them instead of burying them.
How do you begin to practice mindfulness? You can do this through meditation. There are several methods of meditation that I talked about before. The way you choose depends on the amount of time you have to give to the activity. It could be as simple as taking a walk and noticing and enjoying the things you see as you progress on the walk.
Use A Daily Journal
Setting time aside from your day to journal is helpful when battling anxiety of any kind and trying to figure out your life.
The key to journaling is honesty with yourself about your thoughts and your feelings. If you are not ready to be honest with yourself, this activity will not help you.
Don't worry about making a grammatical mistake or spelling words wrong in this exercise. That is not important.
When you are journaling, write about your day, the things that made you happy as well as the things that made you angry or sad. Talk about why these things made you happy, why they make you sad or angry. Write about what these feelings bring up for you, what memories are triggered by these feelings.
Think about why you haven't dealt with those feelings. Think about what you can do in the present moment to help change those negative feelings and outcomes for yourself.
The key is to become consistent in journaling to become aware of the things that create anxiety for you. You will be able to gain control of not only your anxiety but your life.
Of course, there are more techniques available to help overcome your anxiety. Still, these are the ones I felt would be most helpful to people just starting on their journey or reevaluating their journey.
