We have things that serve as a marker for success. Some of us have an easier time knowing what these values are because we have taken the time to define what we value in life.

This blog is for anyone who is unsure or needs a refresher on how values can help you be successful in life. 

Today I am sharing five that define success for individuals. Before I talk about the five values, let me refresh our core values.

What Are Core Values

Core values are the fundamental beliefs of a person.

Core values are the guiding principles that dictate behavior and help people understand the difference between right and wrong.

These values get passed down from generation to generation.

Value Of Honesty

The first of these five values is honesty. 

In whatever we do, we should incorporate honesty. Honesty defines who we are before others know more about us. 

Having honesty as a guiding principle allows you to live a life without worry. When you live an honest life, you have space to create new ideas because you are not constantly using your brainpower to think about lies. 

Honesty allows us to live a life of openness and empowerment. Honesty also allows us to have clarity because our perceptions are not blurred and unclear. 

The value of honesty affects how you deal with people and how you feel about yourself. 

I’ve prided myself on being honest, but there have been times where I felt it was easier to lie. 

Those times were horrible because there was always so much going on in my mind associated with the lie. 

It wasn’t as simple as telling a lie and being done. I had to remember every detail associated with the lie.

I wasted so much brainpower and energy that I was exhausted, and deciding to be honest, was always the best option. 

Value Of Fire

The second of these values is fire.

Fire is your enthusiasm, your drive, the thing that pushes you toward achieving your goals. 

Fire is your determination. Do you have the determination and drive to push through all the challenges you will face?

Most of us like to believe we have what it takes to achieve our goals and dreams, but the minute we face challenges or distractions, we fold. 

When you have that fire, you push through no matter what you face, and you remain positive through it. 

Value Of Hard Work

The third of these values is hard work. 

There is a difference between working hard and working smart. I am an advocate for working smart. Let me tell you the difference between the two. 

Working hard is doing work that you are not clear where it will take you. Working smart is thinking through your work to get to a particular destination. 

Sometimes in life, we may believe we are working hard, but the result is not what we were looking for. In this case, we go back to the drawing board to get the exact result we want.

If you want to be an expert in the field of spirituality, for example, you need to spend time getting familiar with the world of spirituality. 

Becoming an expert may look like taking courses, reading books, attending lectures, finding a mentor or coach who is well versed in spirituality. 

The more you do and learn in the field, the better you understand and share your knowledge with other people through your teachings.

You then can become a mentor or coach for someone else. 

Value Of Confidence

The fourth value is confidence.

Confidence is something we all want to believe we have, but some of us lack it. 

I am not the exception to this thought. There was a time in my life I would tell anyone who listened how confident I was. 

Truthfully, I wasn’t confident at all. Let me share a secret with you. Sure, people do not have to tell others because it shows how they carry themselves.

Confidence is directly related to how you feel about yourself and your abilities. 

When you are confident, you dare to tackle anything and prepare us to receive the outcome no matter what it is. 

When we are confident, we are ourselves most authentically.

Now that I have done my inner work and grown, I don’t have to tell people I’m confident. My confidence exudes through how I carry myself, act, and speak.

Trust me when you are confident you can have everything you desire. 

Value of Perseverance

The fifth value is perseverance.

Perseverance is essential because we know we will face challenges but do we have to keep going when those challenges arise. 

We don’t always have control over our failures, but we do control how we respond to them. 

It’s easy to bury your head under the covers and cry over what could have been, but that will not get you any closer to your goals or achievements. 

Every successful person has met obstacles. It was their perseverance that made the difference in where they are now. 

Begin to incorporate these core values into your life and see how your life will change. They will help create a strong foundation for how you do things personally and professionally.
